Get more from YAML to TOML

YAML to TOML converts YAML to TOML. YAML mappings become TOML assignments or tables when their values are compatible with TOML. YAML nulls, tags, aliases, and multiple documents may not map directly to TOML. Simplify the input to the data the receiver actually expects. Review table names and nested arrays, and check that string values stay strings after conversion. Use the worked example to understand what a successful result looks like, then compare it with a small sample of your own input. Keep the original available until you have checked the output in its destination. Conversion establishes a representation; it does not establish that the underlying information is correct or that the receiving application accepts every supported feature.

How to use this tool

  1. Enter or load YAML using the input controls. Begin with the worked example or a small sample for which you know the expected result.
  2. Review any available conversion options, then inspect the TOML result. Resolve a reported parse error at its source before attempting to reuse the output.
  3. Check the example below against your own data. Review table names and nested arrays, and check that string values stay strings after conversion.
  4. Copy or save the resulting TOML content using the controls provided, then validate it in the application or parser that will actually consume it.

A worked example

EXAMPLE INPUT
port: 3000
name: demo
RESULT / WHAT TO EXPECT
port = 3000
name = "demo"

The mapping keeps its two values while adopting TOML assignment and string syntax.

Literal dots and nested mappings

YAML can contain a literal key named app.name as well as a nested app mapping containing name. TOML can express both concepts, but their quoting and table syntax differ. Review the complete hierarchy after conversion. If a receiver expects a table, an assignment with one dotted-looking literal name may parse correctly yet configure the wrong setting.

Fit the YAML data into TOML

YAML allows null values, aliases, tags, and document streams that do not map directly to ordinary TOML assignments. Start with the configuration values the receiving application actually needs and inspect any unsupported construct before conversion. A nested mapping may become a table, but a literal dotted key is a different concept. Read the resulting table names and compare the full setting paths, not just the final key segment.

When this tool is useful

  • Prepare TOML configuration drafts while retaining a separate copy of the source.
  • Use a small example to troubleshoot unsupported YAML constructs and identify a representation mismatch.
  • Create consistent settings across tools without manually rewriting every field or symbol.

Tips for a better result

  • YAML nulls, tags, aliases, and multiple documents may not map directly to TOML. Simplify the input to the data the receiver actually expects.
  • Review table names and nested arrays, and check that string values stay strings after conversion.
  • After changing formats, compare meaningful values rather than whitespace alone. Read the TOML output with its intended parser when exact types or escaping matter.

Frequently asked questions

Can every YAML feature become TOML?

No. Nulls, tags, aliases, and multiple documents require review because the formats do not share all features.

How should I handle literal dotted keys?

Check whether the output quotes the name or treats the dots as a path. Those are different settings.

Why should I validate in the application?

Valid TOML can still place a setting under the wrong table or use a type the application does not expect.

What happens to the information I enter?

The utility processes your input in this browser. Some tools retain field values in browser storage or the URL; avoid entering secrets in shareable fields. Page and asset requests still go to the hosting provider. Read the privacy and offline-use notes for details.
